Ozmenoglu is a versatile artist who works in a wide range of mediums including large-scale glass sculptures, works on Post-it® notes, photography and neon lighting. Since her first exhibition in 2006, her unique work has been featured in over forty exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad including Istanbul, Berlin and Zagreb, Croatia.
Her playful work, ripe with sociopolitical commentary, challenges the viewer to reconsider familiar images, products and ideas. She cleverly uses ubiquitous items, such as glass and Post-it® notes, to create pieces of art that unite seemingly opposing ideas: the past and the present, art history and contemporary art trends, creativity and consumerism, repetition and individuality, the whole and the fragmented. On her work, Ozmenoglu states:
The foundation of my art springs forth from the idea of repetition as it investigates the process of image consumption, history, and permanence in relation to mass production, ritual, and accompanying psychological states. In some of my pieces, repetition provides social commentary; in others, it conjures a feeling of ritual and a more personal space for a contemplative mood.
Ardan Ozmenoglu’s work is not only aesthetically interesting, but also conceptually intelligent and thought provoking. Her glass sculptures create fragmented experiences where the viewer must actively fill in the missing space to see the whole image. Each of her Post-it® note works appears in pieces, like a mosaic, where each individual screen-printed note becomes part of a larger, more meaningful whole. Her unconventional Post-it® canvases evolve with time, almost organically: the Post-it® notes bend, curl and some fall away.
